Hovey, Steven (951) 845-1631 ex.5324 Board Member

Current Term 2014-2018

Steve Hovey is the newest member of the Beaumont Unified School District Board of Trustees.  Hovey, however, is not new to education.  In fact, he has over 44 years in public education and is currently serving as the Chief Personnel Officer at the Riverside County Office of Education.

With a distinguished career of service, Hovey's started his career dedicated to children's education with a selfless emphasis on student support programs, such as pregnant minors, special education and instruction.  A graduate of UC Riverside, Hovey has directed his steps towards administration after obtaining his Masters Degree in Education.  He has served as RCOE's Director of Curriculum and the Director and the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services.  Additionally, Hovey served as Beaumont’s Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services from 2006-2011.  He brings the experience of being a teacher, a principal and an administrator to the Board.

Hovey has a strong knowledge of the Local Control Funding Formula as well as changes in instruction and the Common Core Standards.  He emphasizes the need to focus on students and the programs geared for preparing them for careers.  He supports programs to help students transition, such as AVID, College and Career Readiness and sufficient school counselors, which he believes helps students graduate prepared for the next phase of their lives.

Hovey has also committed much of his personal time to education.  He has served on numerous board and committees. The list of activities includes state and regional policy committees and the Beaumont Education Support Team, the local foundation raising scholarship funds for students.
