Police Remind Residents of Basic Safety Precautions
Beaumont, CA — The Beaumont Police Department is committed to the safety of its residents and would like to take the opportunity to remind the community of some basic safety precautions following a recent isolated incident involving a female walking alone.
On Monday, April 22, 2013, a seventeen year old female was walking in the 500 block of 9th Street when a male subject drove up and asked if she needed a ride. The female declined the offer and continued walking. The male followed her for two blocks and left after being questioned by a family member of the female. At no time did the subject exit his vehicle or attempt to make physical contact with the female.
The incident was not reported to police until the following morning and officers would like to speak with the male subject involved in the incident. The subject was described as a Hispanic male adult with light skin, brown eyes, short black hair, clean shaven, around thirty years old, and weighing between 230 lbs and 245 lbs. He was last seen wearing a bright blue shirt with a name tag and was driving a baby blue SUV, similar to a Nissan pathfinder. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the on-duty Watch Commander of the Beaumont Police Department at (951) 769-8500. Information can also be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or reported anonymously to WeTip at 1-800-78-CRIME.
As summer approaches and more people venture outdoors, the City would like to remind residents to take basic safety precautions when outside walking or running. You should always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Be sure to observe and pay attention to where you are and who is around you. Avoid isolated, dark, or unknown areas and vary both your pattern and route. Avoid walking or jogging alone, especially at night, unless absolutely necessary. If you feel that you are being followed, precautions include crossing the street, locating an emergency phone, or entering a store or place of business even if you have just left it. If there isn't one, keep moving. Vary your pace, change directions, and go to a well lit area. Always remember, if you ever feel like you’re in danger, please don’t hesitate to call the police by dialing 9-1-1.
