3. Arrive with plenty of time to avoid being in a rush.
4. Heed to the Crossing Guard
5. Find a safe place to let out your child
6. Follow the rules of the road
7. Do not block crosswalks or driveways and stay off walkways
8. Use your blinkers to let others know your intentions
9. Double check your blind spots before proceeding and proceed carefully when entering into another vehicle's blind spot areas.
10. KEEP COOL and Practice Being KIND
Our staff's viewscape is wide, so please
FOLLOW THEIR DIRECTIONS.
Keep in mind your children are watching you and learning from your routine.
"Many children have not yet developed the ability to judge speeds and distances well enough to cross the streets when cars are moving fast." - see the DMV Handbook for more tips!
SAN GORGONIO MIDDLE SCHOOL IN BEAUMONT RECEIVES STATE GOLD RIBBON AWARD
Local learning at public schools shines with high standards and rigorous courses as middle schools advance in competitiveness and technology.
San Gorgonio Middle School in Beaumont Unified School District was honored yesterday with a Gold Ribbon Schools Award by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and the California Department of Education.
Torlakson provided a list of 193 middle schools and 180 high schools honored under the state’s new Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program, which is temporarily taking the place of the California Distinguished Schools Program.
“San Gorgonio Middle School is deserving of the Gold Ribbon Schools Award for the innovative teaching and learning environment that has transformed the campus. The teachers and support staff are on fire with engaging, high-level AVID strategies that have strengthened the academic achievement while providing the personal growth for students through the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support strategies. It is an innovative approach that is a winning combination for middle schools and I commend the Principal, Drew Scherrer, and the entire staff for their commitment to the students and their families,” Beaumont Unified Superintendent, Dr. Maureen Latham.
Torlakson describes the schools as “academically successful, vibrant, and innovative centers of learning and teaching.” The description fits the scenario at San Gorgonio.
“San Gorgonio embraced the idea that in addition to teaching academic knowledge, we needed to provide instruction in behavioral and academic study skills. Our school-wide approach to AVID/PBIS gives ALL of our students these skills,” said Principal Drew Scherrer.
School wide, the teachers are scheduled on interdisciplinary teams with common daily prep periods. The common prep time allows teachers to:
